Although a witness of the deportation to Auschwitz of a third of the Jews of France, the former Bobigny station was long forgotten. However, plaques commemorating the events that had taken place there were put up in the immediate post-war period. This industrial and railway site was belatedly rediscovered as a memorial place in the early 1990s when one of its buildings was threatened with demolition. The memorial was then built around different aspects of the site and went through several stages.
