An industrial reconversion (1954-1987)

During the post-war boom, the freight railway station continued to operate thanks to railway workers who lived there with their families. At the same time, a part of the site was leased to a company that stores, recycles and resells metal. Gradually, the steel reinforcement company wound up occupying the entire site. Freight traffic activity was declining so the SNCF little by little abandoned the site.

When in 1984 the movie director Henri Jouf came to make an on-site film called Bobigny Station of Pain, the railway workers had just relocated and the memory of Bobigny station seemed permanently buried under a heap of scrap metal. The film traces the history of a station master who hears the voices of the deportees coming from the middle of the pile. This movie helped to recognize and appreciate this site as a memorial.
